The Success Files: One person...

Have you ever slogged your guts out for so long, so many years, hoping for that one moment of success? Unless of course, you have it all handed to you on a silver platter without doing anything for it, but that's SO another post for another time.

How many years do actors slog their guts out until that one break-out role?

Is it that notorious “10,000 hours”? Is it more than 10,000 hours?

We just need that one success, that one break-out role. We pray and hope and wish out freakin’ hearts out that our book lands in the hands of that one person who can make a difference. That that one person hears our song or tape, yes, going old school, that their eyes see our piece of artwork or sculpture.

It happened to Snow Patrol. Years back on Grey’s Anatomy their song, Chasing Cars, was played at the end of the season. It was a mega hit for the band who was found by some chick digging in the bin at the back of a record company for tapes (yes, old school again). She picked one up, played it and passed it on to the person who could and would change their lives.

I know, I get it; we can’t all have that one person find us. I guess it all depends on who you are and what you do. Being online in some way, shape or form is a definite help as you have a platform to showcase your talents. Myspace and YouTube have given way to hundreds of singers, actors and musos being picked up by a record company or even Ellen. Look at all the kids she’s had on, all because of a video on YouTube.

All we need is that one person. That one person to see our work, read our book, hear our song or video. One person who will change our life for the better.

One person who will help bring us the success we need and so desperately pray for. Because regardless of how hard we work, without that one person, it just won't happen.
